Tips on Tackling Fleas
- Carpet
is a flea problem area. Boric acid works great in combating
fleas, sprinkle on carpet and brush in with broom; let
it rest for at least several hours preferably longer.
Regularly vacuuming your carpet will also help reduce
flea problem.
- Flea
comb is very effective because of it fine-tooth. Regular
grooming will help remove fleas from your cat's body.
Metal tooth comb lasts the longest.
- Never use products that contain tea-tree oil or pennyroyal oil. There have been pet products out there that contain herbal oil (pennyroyal oil) claiming that it's pure and a natural alternative to controlling flea problems. These oils are a dangerous liver toxin that could possibly kill your cat.
- Bathe
your cat with "blue" Dawn dish detergent not the yellow
Dawn. There's no scientific proof but many groomers and
cat-owners claim their effectiveness. When using shampoo
or soap products, be sure to thoroughly rinse your cat,
leaving no soapy residue.
- Flea
bomb your home with a fogger. When using insecticides
be cautious. Read the labels carefully and take safety
precaution.
- Today
there are newer safer flea products for your cats. These
products are usually easy to apply and completely cat
proof. Consult with your veterinary the products that
work best for cat.
To
truly tackle flea using one method is not enough, you must
tackle it on all fronts-cat, home and backyard. Most of
the flea products are unsafe for kittens so read the directions
carefully. Regularly flea combing your cat, vacuuming, washing
cat bedding, rugs and cleaning "kitty" areas will all help
to reduce flea problem.
