Siamese
...Cat Breed
- History
- Originally from the Far East, the Siamese cat breed came from Siam (now Thailand) as early as the fourteenth century. These cats are known to be kept in the royal court of Siam.
They appeared in the West in the mid-to-late 1800s because the royal family of Siam presented the Siamese cat as a gift to visiting dignitaries. These early cats were delicate and were subjected to health problems.
- Description
- These cats have long sleek elegant body, fine legs and tail and wedge-shaped head is accentuated by the darker color points. This cat breed has ears that are large and pointed, deep blue almond eyes and short silky coat.
- Temperament
- Siamese cats are intelligent, vocal, outgoing and playful. They're also "dog-like" because of their eagerness to walk on harness and lead, retrieve items and even to master tricks. On the down side, Siamese cats can be very demanding and jealous. They could also be loud and distracting when they're vocal.
- Care
- Siamese cats need relatively little grooming. If they're shedding, once a week gently brush their coat to remove loose, dead hairs. These cats have sharp claws and you should clip the tips every once in a while.
This cat breed has a couple of characteristic genetic flaws, all of which are cosmetic and require no medical attention. These include crossed eyes and a kinked tail.
