Pixie Bob
...Cat Breed
- History
- The
legend is that this cat breed was originated through a natural
occurrence of mating between a wild Bobcat and a domestic
cat. Regardless of the legend, the Pixie Bob cat has a remarkable
resemblance to the Native American Bobcat.
Carol Ann Brewer originally developed this breed in Washington State. Carol called her first cat a "Legend Cat", and within one year, she had acquired an additional cat with similar "legend" and another of uncertain origin, but its size, appearance and tail length convinced her to use this male cat to form the a foundation of this breeding program.
A female kitten named "Pixie" was born from the union of two of these original cats. She was covered with muted spotting on her reddish-fawn coat and had a very wild face, resembling that of a Bobcat. The name of this kitten "Pixie" then became the name sake for this cat breed.
- Description
- Pixie
Bob cats are relatively large and have an exotic appearance
resembling the Native American Bobcat. A straight foot Pixie
Bob cat has the normal number of toes usually allotted to
a cat, five in the front and four in the back.
Many Pixie Bobs also have Lynx tufting
on their ear tips. A poly or polydactyl Pixie Bob has more
than the usual number of toes. Being polydactyl is such
a dominant trait that this is the only cat breed accepted
for show with more than the usual number of toes.
- Temperament
- Pixie Bob
cats are affectionate and intelligent with a dog-like devotion
that makes them a great companion and pet. These highly
intelligent cats will train easily to walk on a harness
and quickly learn to fetch and play other games.
Loyal cats, Pixie Bobs exhibit an unusually
strong bond with their family and make excellent companions
for children. This cat breed is very adaptable and enjoys
traveling and gets along very well with other animals.
They are also extremely quiet cats with only an occasional chirp, when they feel like talking.
