cat breed for you? |

Is a Pedigree Cat Breed
right for you?
Before you choose your cat or kitten,
do a little research on the different cat
breeds and their traits. Even if you decide to adopt
a mixed cat breed, having some idea of their traits and
habits will help you make the right decision that fits
your lifestyle and personality.
While choosing, most important is that
the cat or kitten is healthy and sociable. Bright eyes,
shiny coat, cool damp nose and playfulness. These are
all signs of a healthy cat that has been well cared for.
Some of the most popular
cat breeds are Persians, Himalayans,
Ragdolls, Siamese and Maine Coon. |

- Pedigree
(Purebred): Both parents are of the same pedigree
and cat breed. A benefit of selecting a pedigree kitten
is that it's easier to predict their looks and the characteristic
temperament of the cat breed.
- Crossbreed:
Both parents are pedigree but of different cat breed.
The kitten could grow up to physically resemble either
one of their parents or both of them.
- Non-Pedigree
(Mixed Breed): One or both of their parents
are crossbreeds. Different cat breeds may have been
mixed over many generations, making it harder to determine
the physical looks and characteristics of unborn kittens.
- Why
Select a Pedigree Cat Breed?
- For
those interested in either showing or breeding a pedigree
cat. Choosing a specific cat breed is a matter of personal
preference. It helps to research the different cat breeds.
For example, as adorable as Persians are they require daily
grooming. Burmese and Siamese are known to be very vocal,
noisy and demanding. Ragdolls are popular for their relaxed
nature but can be injured without noticing.
- Why
Select a Non-Pedigree Cat Breed?
- Owning
a cat can be a very rewarding experience and cats make a
great companion. There will always be plenty of free or
inexpensive mixed breed felines who make great pets that
are in need of a loving home.

of Coat
- Shorthair:
Such as Siamese cats need very little help with grooming
and are able to clean their fur perfectly well. Keep
in mind that regular brushing will help to maintain
both their coat and skin and prevent fur ball.
- Semi-Longhair:
Need only a little extra help from their owners.
Their coats are long but less full and thick, making
it easier for them to groom themselves efficiently.
- Longhair:
As adorable and fluffy as these cats look their long
and full coats require daily grooming and lots of attention
to maintain them in good condition. Himalayans, Persians
and Maine Coons may have a harder time grooming thoroughly
because of their flat faces. They must be groomed daily
to prevent their coats from being seriously matted.
- Female
or Male?
- Un-neutered
males tend to be more aggressive and difficult to control
than females, especially during the breeding season. Neutering
your tom will reduce fighting, straying and spraying of
urine. Once both sexes are neutered or spayed, there is
absolutely very little difference between them. Both sexes
make equally good and affectionate pets.
